In addition to measuring specific actions that lead to better outcomes for patients who come to the Cedars-Sinai Emergency Department, Cedars-Sinai surveys the overall experience of patients receiving treatment at the Emergency Department.
Cedars-Sinai Health System retains an outside research firm to continually survey patients about the experience they had at Cedars-Sinai while receiving care.
These surveys are conducted by NRC + Picker, a consumer and a healthcare research organization. The surveys are based on research done by the Picker Institute and Harvard University researchers on what is most important to patients in healthcare settings. The results of the surveys of Cedars-Sinai patients are compared to the results given by all other Emergency Department patients surveyed by Picker across the nation.
A total of 83.9% of patients surveyed about their overall experience at the Emergency Department at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center rated it as good to excellent. By comparison, 85.6% of Emergency Department patients responding to the survey done by The Picker Institute rated their experience as good to excellent.

A patient's willingness to recommend to friends and family an Emergency Department where he or she has received care is an important indicator of satisfaction with the experience.
A total of 64.2% of the patients using the services of the Cedars-Sinai Emergency Department said, "Yes, definitely" when asked if they would recommend it to friends and family. In comparison, 60.3% of those surveyed by the National Research Corp. (NRC) and The Picker Institute said they would definitely recommend the Emergency Department where they received care.
