Measuring Inpatient Satisfaction

Cedars-Sinai Health System participates in the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Health Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) hospital survey to measure what kind of experience patients have at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center while receiving care.

The survey was developed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) -- both part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The survey is intended to provide a standard way of collecting information about patients' perspectives on hospital care.

Overall Inpatient Satisfaction

When Cedars-Sinai patients were asked to rate the care they received at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on the California Hospital Assessment and Reporting Taskforce (CHART) survey done by the National Research Corp. (NRC) and The Picker Institute, 65.8% ranked Cedars-Sinai as 9 to 10, with 10 being the "best hospital possible." On average in all CHART surveys done by the National Research Corp., 54.6% of all patients surveyed ranked the hospital where they received inpatient care as 9 to 10 on the same 10-point scale.

Willingness to Recommend Cedars-Sinai Medical Center

A patient's willingness to recommend a medical center to friends and family is a strong indicator of how satisfied he or she was with the care given.

When patients were asked if they would recommend Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to family or friends, 74.6% answered "definitely yes." On average, of all the patients responding to the National Research Corp.'s CHART survey, 60.1% said "definitely yes" when asked if they would be willing recommend the hospital or office where they received care.
