This measure requires that care providers wash their hands with a disinfectant before and after seeing patients and that appropriate measures are taken to prevent patients from aspirating, developing infections related to having a catheter, assessing and prevent the risk of infections as a result of surgery and vaccinating healthcare workers to prevent flu infections.

This measure requires that a pharmacist review all medication orders, an orderly work space is maintained for dispensing medications, medications are properly labeled and stored, high risk medications are identified and safeguarded, medications are purchase and stored in single use form and that safe processes are put in place for using anti-blood-clotting medication.
