Phlebotomy Certification Program

The Phlebotomy Certification Program at Cedars-Sinai was approved by the State of California in May of 2003. For more information about the new California phlebotomy regulations, visit the Laboratory Field Services website.

Our phlebotomy course consists of 40 hours of lectures plus 40 hours of practical experience in our hospital. Applications must be received two months prior to the start of the class. Eligible applicants must have a high school diploma (or equivalent). The fee for this class is $1000 and the course will take four weeks to complete. Class sessions are scheduled each January, May and September/October. The hours for this class are as follows:

  • First week = 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Weeks 2 thru 4 = 5 a.m. to noon.

Completing the full 80 hour program plus passing an approved national exam will allow a candidate to apply for phlebotomy certification by the state.
