Independent Student Volunteers

If you need to gain experience in exchange for school credit or want exposure to clinical areas or research in a volunteer capacity to assist you in determining your career path, the Independent Student (IS) Program is designed for you. Running continuously throughout the year, independent student volunteers are managed by the Office of Academic Affairs and the Volunteer Services Department. In order to participate in this volunteer program, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age AND
  • Cannot be receiving a monetary reimbursement from ANY source relating to your work (including a stipend). If you are receiving any financial compensation, please contact the Academic Affairs Department of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center at (310) 423-7888.
  • NOTE: for students on a work permit, the type of visa must be disclosed. The requesting Department/Principal Investigator must obtain placement approval from Academic Services and Human Resources prior to submitting this application.

Applying to Become an Independent Student Volunteer

If you are interested in volunteering in a clinical position please contact the IS Clinical Coordinator at Kelly A. McVeagh and complete the registration packet below. For research volunteer positions please email Elsa Aguilar.

  • Parking Form and Volunteer Expectations
  • Confidentiality Acknowledgment Form
  • IS Orientation Schedule 2008

  • EEO Form
You will also need to fulfill our initial and annual EHS health requirement. You will need to complete the following forms to take to your scheduled appointment:
  • Attachment #1 EHS Evaluation Form
  • Attachment #2 TB Symptom Review Form
  • CSMC Parking Map

  • Davis Building Access (revised)

To Be Completed by the Student Applicant and Supervisor

  • Clinical Orientation Checklist
  • Radiation Safety Clearance Form/Research Lab Student Orientation Checklist
