Diagnostic Tests: Having a Breast MRI

A breast MRI is done to:

  • Determine if there are breast abnormalities
  • If an abnormality is detected, determine if it is benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous)
  • If a growth looks malignant, determine where it is in the breast (how close is it to the chest wall, skin and nipple), how big it is, and if there are enlarged lymph nodes
  • Evaluate breast implant integrity and detect breast cancer in women with breast augmentation

Breast MRIs are done at the S. Mark Taper Foundation Center located on Gracie Allen Drive east of San Vicente Blvd. An appointment can be only be made after receiving a referral from your Saul and Joyce Brandman Breast Center physician. Once you have that referral you can call 310-423-8000 for an appointment.
