Medical Genetics Fellowship
Clinical Genetics Training is found under Residencies

The UCLA Intercampus Medical Genetics Training Program, which is coordinated through Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, offers two- or three-year research fellowship programs in Cytogenetics, Clinical Biochemical, and Clinical Molecular genetics. The Intercampus Program brings together the many UCLA faculty members interested in human and medical genetics from the basic science departments of the School of Medicine, the College of Letters and Sciences, the Molecular Biology Institute, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and the Medical Genetics Units at the three hospitals. These programs are fully accredited by the American Board of Medical Genetics. The overall purpose of the Program is to provide trainees with a broad knowledge of medical genetics and extensive experience in genetic research so they can enter the academic community as independent investigators.

Clinical Laboratory training is available in Cytogenetics, Clinical Biochemical, and Clinical Molecular genetics for physicians and researchers with doctorate degrees who wish to pursue a research or clinical laboratory career. The Training Program offers a large number of potential research mentors and a wide variety of research opportunities spanning basic molecular and cell biology, biochemical genetics, population genetics and medical genetics. Successful candidates in these areas of laboratory study may be eligible to sit for specialty examinations given by the American Board of Medical Genetics. The goals of the UCLA Intercampus Medical Genetics Training Program are to provide postdoctoral training to highly motivated, academically oriented of individuals with:

  • A broad, in-depth educational program covering all aspects of human and medical genetics, molecular biology, cell biology and related fields;
  • Sufficient high-quality, clinical genetics training for those wishing to fulfill the requirements of the American Board of Medical Genetics for clinical laboratory certification;
  • Clinical or laboratory research training of the highest quality and sufficient intensity and duration to produce productive independent genetic investigators.
