Research and Outcomes

Basic Research

The Division of Neurology's Rose Moss Neurogenetics Laboratory has
received continuous funding from the National Institutes of Health for more than a decade. More than 100 research papers and many books and chapters have been published on basic research performed by the Division of Neurology.

Neurology research at Cedars-Sinai is focused on four main areas:
  • Investigation of neurodegenerative disorders, in particular the dominant ataxias
  • Investigation of the genes involved in causing or preventing brain tumors and the role of these genes in development and neuronal functioning
  • Identification of the genes that lead to muscle diseases and epilepsy
  • Investigations into neuropsychiatry and cognition, especially the genetic basis of attention deficit disorder

Clinical Research

Members of the Division of Neurology work on novel methods to identify epileptic regions in the brain using SPECT imaging and magnetic encephalography. The Stroke Center and the Epilepsy Center also conduct clinical trials.
