Steve C. Chen, MD, FACS is the Director of Pediatric Surgery and the Director of Pediatric Trauma at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Chen is also the inaugural holder of the Walter and Shirley Wang Chair in Pediatric Surgery, and he has academic appointments in both surgery and pediatrics from the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Dr. Chen is certified in pediatric surgery, general surgery and surgical critical care by the American Board of Surgery. He has strong clinical interests in pediatric general and thoracic surgery, as well as critical care medicine. Dr. Chen has extensive experience in minimally invasive surgery for pediatric patients, including both abdominal and thoracic procedures.
Since joining the medical staff at Cedars-Sinai, Dr. Chen has performed numerous first-time pediatric endoscopic procedures in Southern California, including minimally invasive repair of esophageal and tracheal malformation, neonatal lung resections, intestinal atresia, and multidisciplinary fetal intervention. Dr. Chen has also developed comprehensive clinical programs for chest wall deformity correction, particularly minimally invasive repair of pectus excavatum and surgical management for gastroesophageal reflux.
A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, Dr. Chen received his medical degree from the University of Southern California School of Medicine. He completed his residency training both in general surgery and surgical critical care at Cedars-Sinai. Prior to joining Cedars-Sinai as a full-time faculty member, Dr. Chen trained in pediatric surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, the largest children's hospital in the U.S.
