Ray M. Chu, MD
Attending Neurosurgeon
Ray M. Chu, MD is an attending neurosurgeon at the Department of Neurosurgery at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center. His interests include brain and spinal cord tumors, spinal disorders, peripheral nerve and brachial plexus disorders, vagus nerve stimulation and surgery for epilepsy. He has extensive experience in radiosurgery, including use of the Gamma Knife system.
Over the course of Dr. Chu's career, his research has included malignanet brain tumors, a neuroprotective compound in stroke, high-field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), sleep disorders and macular degeneration. He has made presentations at numerous professional conferences across the United States, such as the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the North American Skull Base Society and the Minnesota Surgical Society. He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons and California Medical Association.
Dr. Chu has written numerous articles for peer-reviewed publications, including Neurosurgery, Pediatric Neurosurgery, Neurosurgical Focus, Techniques in Neurosurgery and Neuroimaging Clinics of North America. He also co-authored a chapter for the Textbook of Neurological Surgery: Principles and Practice and wrote a chapter on surgical management of high grade glioma.
Dr. Chu received his bachelor's degree in biological science from Stanford University and earned his medical degree at the University of California, San Diego. He completed an internship in surgery and a residency in neurosurgery at the University of Minnesota.
